Tyndale WorldCat

Adding and removing databases

WorldCat contains are large number of resources. You can search the content of other specific databases Tyndale subscribes to by clicking the Add and Remove Databases button on the Advanced Search page.

One caution when using the feature is that while you can search author and title you can usually search more fields by searching a database individually, as all search fields may not be searched by WorldCat. On the positive side WorldCat does open a world of information all through one portal!

You can search individual databases by clicking the Online Resources tab in the Library Web page.

Advanced search strategies

The Advanced Search screen can be used to conduct more targeted searches in WorldCat local. To retrieve the Advanced Search screen take the following steps:

  1. On the Tyndale Library website (www.tyndale.ca/library) find the WorldCat Search box click the Advanced Search link
  2. Enter search terms in the search box
  3. Click on the drop-down menu beside the search box and select your targetted search. The Tyndale WorldCat allows you to search by the following: Accession number, Author, ISBN, ISSN, Journal Source, Keyword, Subject, Title
  4. Scroll down to the lower part of the Advanced Search to find more options you can use to narrow your search: Library, Year of publication, Audience, Content, Format, Language,
  5. You can also choose to search "Libraries Worldwide" orjust limit your search to "Tyndale University".

If you choose not to use any of the limiters, the Tyndale WorldCat will use the basic keyword search (see Basic Search) to locate items in the Tyndale Library collections.

Now that we've explored the Basic Search and the Advanced Search let's take a look at the Command Line Search features. The Command Line Search feature allows you to conduct specific and targeted searches from any one of the Tyndale WorldCat screens.
