Before you begin your research, develop your research strategy – get some background information on your topic.
Do you need a general overview of a topic to get started?
Start by looking at library reference materials, such as:
general encyclopedias,
subject specific encyclopedias,
dictionaries,
course textbooks,
books placed on reserve for your course
These will give a basic overview and may provide lists of articles and books for further reading.
Check your lecture notes too.
Your instructor may have referred to articles or books for your class to consult.
