Basic search strategies

The Basic Search is the default search for the Tyndale WorldCat homepage.

It is a great tool to use when you are just beginning to explore a new topic because it uses keywords to find resources by title, subject, author, abstract,  all at one time.

Searching for items on the Basic Search engine is easy as 1-2-3 (literally)

  1. Enter search terms
  2. Click on the drop-down menu and choose one of the following:
Tyndale University College & Seminary (search resources at Tyndale only)
Libraries Worldwide (search resources across the globe)
  3. Click the Search button
After you click Search, WorldCat will display your results in the following order:
  4. By library holdings. Tyndale first, worldwide second
  5. Relevance based on where the keywords used appear in the title, author, and subject
  6. Date of publication

Sounds good? But what if you want to conduct a more targeted search (i.e. title, author, etc.)?

To find out how, let's look at the Advanced Search strategies.
